Volunteer position ($2,000 honorarium provided)

As South End Eco Development (SEED) co-operative members, we believe in sharing more and buying less – hence the Library of Things (LOT) pilot project. We are a community that strives to operate with a culture of sharing resources and minimizing waste. The LOT provides a platform for SEED members to share their tools and resources within the community.

The LOT shed is located centrally in the SEED neighbourhood; with a membership, the tools are shared through an online platform of lending and borrowing.  There are a variety of tools that range from the garden to the kitchen and beyond. As the project grows, we hope to encourage neighbours to buy less and share more which enhances the resiliency of our neighborhood.


POSITION:

SEED is looking for someone who has a clear value of sustainability, community-minded, connects easily with community members, and is self-motivated.  The LOT Coordinator will have support from the board of directors; there will be an appropriate division of labour. 



RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Requesting, coordinating, organizing donations from neighbours

  • Updating the online database with photos and descriptions

  • Being responsive to the database and inventory to "check out/in" items

  • Establishing guidelines for the LOT lending program

  • Coordinating meetings and orientations

  • Connecting with precedent LOT/toolshare groups to better understand best practices

  • Outreach and marketing of the project

  • Manage LOT email and communication


SKILLS:

  • Computer and website navigation skills

  • Data management

  • Good communication and written skills

  • Effective interpersonal skills

  • Marketing/ social media proficiency


EXPECTATIONS:

  • The LOT Coordinator will work independently

  • Biweekly check in and updates to SEED Board

  • SEED Board will provide support and direction to the LOT Coordinator

  • LOT Coordinator will provide their own computer and internet access

  • 5-month position – until May 2025

  • Weekly hours to be determined

  • Maximum $2,000 honorarium to be paid
