Flood prevention - Ditch Digging Workparty

Many houses in our neighborhood are prone to flooding due to intense rain events, below grade basements, and inadequate drainage infrastructure. Several attempts to have city workers come out and address the problem have yielded marginal results because the railway ditching is one of the major culprits for flooding. 2020 we organized a ditching work party to clear out clogged areas of the railway ditch that drains a part of our neighborhood into the Catstream. We are going to meet again to clear it out some more.

Where: North end of Columbia Street at Thuthiqut Food Forest

When: Saturday Nov 18th, 12:00pm-3:00pm

What: clearing out a ditch from Blackberries, and any other obstructions.Possibly planting trees to keep the ditch shaded and free from blackberry thickets.

Bring: Workclothes, gumboots, Tools will be provided. If anyone would like to provide us with a tasty snack, we welcome that too!

Stop by along the tracks to offer your encouragement! We welcome your support.

Bing Kee Food Forest Work Party

An amazing act of generosity and community has been gifted to this project. Deborah Vanderwolf from Flavor Valley Acres raised $1000.00 from her birthday to contribute to this food forest and the Bayview gardens too. With this we can add heaps of healthy soil and compost to this site.

This work party will focus on spreading out the compost and soil material as well as laying down some more irrigation to the area before we plant out some more food.

THANK-YOU DEBORAH!!

We really appreciate your support.

Community Yoga!- By Donation

Welcome to the first of hopefully many Community Yoga classes

This is a fair weather event, so, if its raining we will have to wait for another Sunday.

These classes will focus on how things feel in the body and not about what things look like. I’m over the whole instagram pose yoga. Let’s feel good!!

This is a family event, feel free to bring the kids. They can follow along or (if your OK with it) they can play on the school playground.

Please come dressed in comfy clothes you can move in. Bring a blanket ( I find Yoga mats impossible in nature) to move on, and an extra blanket or towel is helpful.

Classes will be taught by ME! (Sasha Rochon) I am a Yoga Therapy Teacher/Personal Trainer/ Dancer.
